Key Equipment Supervisor – Procurement

Our client, a Toronto-based untilities organization has an immediate need for a Key Equipment and Material Planning Supervisor to oversee procurement optimization and scheduling of materials. The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing planning and recommending key equipment required to support planned construction and system maintenance for the enterprise. The successful candidate will aim to maintain a high level of customer service delivery, material availability and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops templates, processes and supporting documentation to manage equipment needs including databases/inventories, forms, etc.
  • Develops specific equipment requirements, prepares request/documentation, responds to inquiries, etc. with other business owners
  • Conducts research and investigates pricing and availability for key equipment
  • Prepares and analyzes reports, findings and proposals and presents recommendations
  • Conducts visits to facilities/warehouses to inspect, measure and photograph equipment in consideration
  • Supports the vendor selection process
  • Builds and maintains relationships with internal stakeholders and preferred suppliers to ensure key equipment is appropriately planned and sourced
  • Provides technical expertise in the planning, design and implementation of projects and key initiatives
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline or automate processes to continuously improve service delivery
  • Oversees the development and implementation of a Material Planning & Scheduling Strategy
  • Recommends process improvements and KPI’s in order to realize costs savings and enhance operational efficiencies
  • Coordinates material availability analyses, permanent maintenance of the parameters and master data as well as expediting purchase and supply sources in order to guarantee timely availability of materials
  • Manages inventory levels to ensure high material levels with minimum inventories in a cost effective way
  • Reviews requirement specifications into procurement requests and processes orders to ensure timely availability of materials
  • Ensures ongoing awareness and communications of the commodities market availability and costs
  • Liaises with Procurement group to ensure that agreement terms and conditions support material demand and availability
  • Liaises with the Engineering, Warehousing, Procurement and Capital Projects groups to ensure materials and services availability, which are required to maintain a high level of delivery capability and reliability with cost effective manufacturing, short throughput times and a low capital tie in
  • Recommends the development and implementation of a long term strategy plan in reducing non-standard materials between all warehouses
  • Reviews Purchase Orders and RFQ’s as required
  • Liaises with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure that agreement terms and conditions support material demand and availability
  • Evaluates the performance of direct reports, train and develop staff by providing technical advice, recommend appropriate employee training and skills development, positive reinforcement, constructive feedback and discipline when necessary to enhance performance and ensure the maintenance of a knowledgeable and effective staff
  • Administers applicable Collective Agreement and represents management in grievance resolution.
  • Budget responsibility and signing authority according to established policy
  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in procurement and logistics related functional areas
  • Experience in performing extensive analyses and generating detailed reports
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license
  • Strong knowledge of specifications for utility equipment, materials and services an asset
  • Project Management and scheduling expertise
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Experience in Material Planning and Expediting an asset
  • Experience in a unionized utility environment an asset
  • APICS or SCMA enrolment an asset
